Robert UnderwoodFormer Congressman and President Emeritus of the 91快播 Robert A. Underwood has been appointed by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to the Board of Trustees of the American Folklife Center in the Library of Congress. Underwood will serve a term of six years.

鈥淚t is an honor to be nominated by Speaker Nancy Pelosi for this position to oversee the work of the Library of Congress in various cultural projects,鈥 Underwood said. 鈥淎s we look to strengthen our own roots to our past, I hope we can share that with the rest of the country.鈥

According to its website, 鈥渢he American Folklife Center was created in 1976 by the U.S. Congress to 鈥榩reserve and present American folklife鈥 through programs of research, documentation, archival preservation, reference service, live performance, exhibitions, publications, and training.鈥 The center collects, documents, and preserves living traditional culture in the Library of Congress. The collections, which include extensive audiovisual documentation of traditional arts, cultural expressions, and oral histories, offer researchers access to the songs, stories, and other creative expressions of people from diverse communities.

While serving as Guam鈥檚 Congressional delegate, Underwood submitted eight items that are now part of the American Folklore Center鈥檚 collections, which can be viewed online at: .
