Dr. Ernesto Guades of UOG鈥檚 School of Engineering completed training to become a program evaluator for civil engineering programs for ABET, an accrediting organization for college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology.

Dr. Ernesto Guades, an assistant professor in the 91快播鈥檚 School of Engineering (SENG), has completed training to serve as a program evaluator for civil engineering under ABET, which accredits college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology.

As a member of the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, Guades will evaluate civil engineering programs over a five-year term. In this role, he will review academic materials, conduct campus visits, and contribute to decisions that determine whether programs meet the standards required for accreditation.

Selected last year by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Guades underwent ABET鈥檚 comprehensive Program Evaluator Candidate Training, which included a web-based component and culminated with an in-person simulated visit training held May 31 - June 1, 2025, in Baltimore, Maryland.

鈥淏eing an ABET Program Evaluator will strengthen my ability to ensure that UOG鈥檚 Civil Engineering program continues to meet rigorous professional standards,鈥 said Guades. 鈥淚t also opens doors for collaboration and knowledge exchange across disciplines and institutions, which ultimately benefits our students and faculty at UOG.鈥

In September 2024, UOG鈥檚 Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering program received the maximum six-year accreditation from ABET, a significant milestone for UOG and for Micronesia鈥檚 only four-year civil engineering degree program.
